1 Killed, 3 Injured in Suspected Drive-by Shooting in Chicago

One person has been killed, with three others left injured, in what police believe to be a drive-by shooting in Chicago.

According to ABC7 Chicago, the shooting occurred at about 9:01 p.m. local time on Thursday, July 16, near a train station on the 5100 block of South Calumet Avenue, around six miles south of the city’s downtown.

Officers from the Chicago Police Department said that a black vehicle pulled alongside a group of people before somebody in the vehicle began shooting, per the outlet.

A 44-year-old man was pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Medical Center after being shot in the chest, ABC7 Chicago reported. He has not yet been identified.

Three men, aged 34, 35 and 54, were also taken to the hospital after being shot, but were said to be in good condition. The two younger men, shot in the legs and body respectively, were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, per CBS News.

The 54-year-old was shot in the body and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, the outlet reported.

The vehicle fled east after the shooting, and police are investigating.

According to the Chicago Tribune, there were more than 60 rifle casings present at the intersection of South Calumet Avenue and 51st Street on Thursday night, as well as police tape across the entrance to the train station.

Per FOX affiliate WFLD, the incident was one of a number of shootings to occur across the area throughout the evening. About six minutes later, a man on South Hermitage Avenue, about four miles northwest, heard gunfire and realized he had been shot.

He suffered a gunshot wound to his right thigh but was taken to the hospital in good condition.

A woman has also been arrested after shooting a man in a domestic-related incident, while two women were wounded in another domestic shooting.

The man was taken to the hospital in serious condition, while the two women were taken to the hospital in good condition, the outlet reported.

PEOPLE reached out to the Chicago Police Department for comment but did not immediately hear back.
