8 People Injured, Including 4 Children, in Mass Shooting During Fourth of July Celebrations at Coney Island

At least eight people, including four children, were injured in a mass shooting in New York during Fourth of July celebrations.

At around 10:30 p.m. local time on Saturday, July 4, authorities responded to reports of a shooting near the intersection of West 30th Street and Surf Avenue in Brooklyn's Coney Island, the New York City Police Department (NYPD) confirmed to PEOPLE.

Eight people were injured, including four boys, ages six to 14. Two men, ages 33 and 37, and two women, ages 21 and 25, were also injured in the shooting, per the NYPD.

The victims were transported by EMS to local area hospitals, where seven people were listed in stable condition, and the 21-year-old woman was listed in critical condition, the NYPD.

The victims have not been publicly identified at this time.

Police gathered outside SeaPark Apartments after the shooting to help those injured, the outlet reported.

It is currently unclear how many gunmen there were, or the motive behind the shooting. No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

The investigation remains ongoing, according to the NYPD.
